In plain words: Myci runs on the least information we need to connect you with neighbors. No ads, no selling your data, and your location is always fuzzed to a neighborhood — never a precise pin.
This policy explains what Myci collects, why, and the choices you have. Myci is a prototype built for the Green Hackathon 2026; we keep our data practices deliberately minimal.
What we collect
- Your profile — a display name and, optionally, a short bio and avatar. A real name is never required.
- Approximate location — the general area of your street so we can match you with nearby neighbors. We never store or share a precise GPS pin; locations are fuzzed before they leave your device.
- What you post — the offers, requests, and messages you choose to share, plus the swaps you complete.
- Basic technical data — the minimum needed to keep the service running and secure (e.g. a session token).
What we don't collect
- No advertising identifiers and no tracking pixels.
- No precise, continuous location tracking.
- No selling, renting, or trading your personal data — ever.
How we use your information
We use it only to make the service work: to show you relevant offers and requests nearby, to connect a surplus with a need, to let neighbors message each other, and to keep the network safe from abuse. That's it.
What other neighbors can see
Your display name, anything you choose to post, and your approximate area are visible to other neighbors so exchanges can happen. Your contact details and exact address are never shown. You decide what to share in each post.
Sharing & third parties
We don't sell your data. We share information only when strictly necessary to operate the service (for example, the hosting infrastructure that stores posts) or when required by law. Any provider we use is held to handling your data solely on our behalf.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your posts at any time, and deleting your account removes your profile and content from the live service.
Your choices & rights
- Access, correct, or delete your profile and posts.
- Control your approximate location, or turn location matching off.
- Delete your account and the data tied to it.
Children
Myci is intended for the people on your street. If a younger neighbor uses it, we ask that a parent or guardian helps them and stays involved.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the date above and, for meaningful changes, surface a notice in the app.
